Bureau of Indian Affairs nominee Neal McCaleb on Friday lashed out at his detractors and accused two Oklahoma state officials of using their positions for financial benefit.

The action by Oklahoma's Transportation Secretary comes after Aeronautics and Space Commissioner, William D. Kendrick, wrote a letter to Gov. Frank Keating and Attorney General Drew Edmondson seeking an investigation into McCaleb's use of state aircraft. Kendrick said McCaleb has used aircraft for personal reasons.

In response, McCaleb says Kendrick and Aeronatics Director Bill Miller used their position to promote businesses in which they have a financial interest. In February, McCaleb had demanded Miller resign and his department is conducting an investigation into the charges, as is the State Bureau of Investigation.

The Aeronatics Commission is part of McCaleb's department but it has some measure of independence.
