APRIL 17, 2001

President Bush on Monday announced his intention to nominate an Assistant Secretary at the Department of Interior but it isn't necessarily the one tribal leaders want to hear about.

Bush named Colorado lawyer Bennett Rale as Assistant Secretary for Water and Science. Rale would oversee the U.S. Geological Survey and the Bureau of Reclamation.

In a statement, Secretary Gale Norton said she was pleased with the announcement.
