Criticized for endorsing a federal judgeship for defeated former colleague and tribal foe Slade Gorton, Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo) is also playing a role in the vacant spots at the US District Court in Denver, Colorado.

Campbell and Senator Wayne Allard (R-Colo) on Thursday announced the formation of a six-member judicial advisory committee to screen candidates for three vacant positions in the court. They didn't reveal the identities of the committee's six members and Campbell spokesperson Chris Changery said the two were still working on naming them.

A vacancy is also open on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals but the committee won't consider that position.

Campbell joined 47 other GOP Senators last month in recommending Gorton for a federal judgehip on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals or the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
