Former Norton foe to close shop

FEBRUARY 14, 2001 A Colorado gay rights group who battled an anti-gay law which Gale Norton defended all the way to the United States Supreme Court will close its offices due to budget woes. Equality Colorado was formed to educate the public about Amendment 2, a measure which prohibited local communities from enacting laws to prohibit discrimination against gays and lesbians. As Attorney General for Colorado, Norton defended the measure but it was eventually struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional in 1996. Two years later, Norton signed onto a Hawaii court brief opposing same-sex marriages. Get the Story:
