DECEMBER 8, 2000 The US Commission on Civil Rights is investigating alleged irregularities of African-American voters and will hear a report on the issue today. African-American and Haitian immigrant voters have complained of discrimination, intimidation, and other irregularities on Election Day. A Wshington Post analysis also reported that precincts with predominantly African-American voters had their votes thrown out at higher rates than others. The Commission has the power to conduct hearings and make recommendations, but has no real enforcement power. Their report on civil rights of Indians in South Dakota has seen little action since its release last March. Get the Story:
