JANUARY 26, 2001 Advisers to Secretary of Interior nominee Gale Norton say she will bring her fellow Coloradons to Washington, DC, should she be the first woman to head the Department of Interior. In total, 79 jobs need to be filled at the Department of Interior, including the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs. Of those, 14 require Senate confirmation, including the the Indian Affairs Secretary. Norton will undoubtedly get to pick some, but not all, of the people who will fill those positions. Former staff members of her Colorado Attorney General's office as well as friends from her failed run for Senate are considered in the running for these jobs. Get the Story:
