DECEMBER 13, 2000 The Senate race pitting First Lady Hillary Clinton against Representative Rick Lazio (R-NY) was the most expensive ever, according to the Federal Election Commission. Lazio spent $39.6 million, the largest ever by a losing candidate. Clinton spent $29 million. Get FEC data:
