NOVEMBER 17, 2000

The final results on the race between Senator Slade Gorton and Maria Cantwell are expected over the next few days.

The Republican Gorton currently has a 11,500 lead over Democrat Cantwell. There are still special ballots to be counted in several counties, including the Cantwell stronghold of King County.

But given the widened lead Gorton has over Cantwell, she has to capture a great majority of the outstanding ballots in order to win the race.
