Ventura urges vote with conscience

NOVEMBER 1, 2000

Appearing on the ABC late-night news show "Nightline," Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, an independent politician, urged viewers to vote with their conscience on Tuesday night.

Ventura's sentiments echoed that of Green Party Vice-Presidential candidate Winona LaDuke and her running mate Ralph Nader. Nader also appeared on the program.

Ventura isn't endorsing any candidate in the race, however. He said Nader and Al Gore are too liberal and George W. Bush and Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan are too conservative.

But he said that the two-party political system in America needs to be broken. Ventura was elected Governor after coming from behind in 1998.

Both Nader and LaDuke credit his performance in the election to his appearance in debates. The Green Party, and all other third parties, were shut out of the televised, sanctioned debates held last month.
