Ute Chairman threatened with recall

NOVEMBER 10, 2000 Chairman John E. Baker Jr. of the Southern Ute Tribe is being threatened with a recall effort. Councilor Pearl Casias said she will present a recall petition today to the council. The tribe's election board certified that a little more than 30 percent of the registered voters signed the petition. Baker is charged with abuse of power, deception, and incompetence. Get the Story:
