THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2001

Tribal leaders and the American Civil Liberties Union are proposing to give three of North Dakota's reservations their own legislative representative.

The map being submitted to the Legislative Redistricting Committee today would give the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, the Spirit Lake Reservation and the Fort Berthold Reservation their own House of Representatives sub-district. Currently, the Turtle Mountain Ojibwe Reservation has its own House district and the plan would preserve it.
