Murkowski says he has lost Senate power

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2001 Even if Republicans take control of the Senate next year, Republican member Frank Murkowski of Alaska said it will take him eight years to gain his power back. That revelation contributed to his decision to run for Governor of Alaska, he said on Tuesday. Murkowski used to be chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Murkowski is the chief leader on allowing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. On subsistence, Murkowski said he didn't want the state to make a "snap decision" but favored a constitional amendment to recognize a rural or Native priority. Get the Story:
