Things are looking up for the Gay Head Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts.

After being rebuffed by influential lawmakers, support is growing for the tribe's proposal for a casino, The Boston Herald reports. The paper cites sources which say House Speaker Thomas M. Finneran has "softened" his objections and is effectively recommending a casino as a way to boost sagging state revenue.

The paper also quotes Kevin Sullivan, acting Gov. Jane Swift's administration and finance secretary, as saying the "door should be opened" to considering gaming.
