Ariz. gaming debated at hearing

TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2002 A large turnout was reported at a hearing held on Monday by the Arizona Legislature to address gaming. Only 14 people were allowed to tell the Senate Government Committee how they feel about Indian casinos and the potential expansion of gaming at racetracks. Gov. Jane Hull testified in favor of compacts she signed with 17 tribes. The racing industry opposes the agreements and wants its own deal. The Colorado River Tribes, which didn't sign the compacts, are pushing a voter initiative. Get the Story:
