Mohawk members want own casino

A group of members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe / Akwesasne Mohawk Nation plans to file a land-into-trust application for its own casino in the Catskills region of New York.

The members are part of a faction not recognized as the official government of the tribe. Their partner is Catskills Development.

The traditional three chiefs who are recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the courts as the legitimate leaders are planning on building a casino with Park Place Entertainment.
