Lobbyists jockey for Maine casino

There's a flurry of activity at the Statehouse in Maine, where lobbyists and their allies are trying to get gaming approved.

Gov. Angus King has vetoed a bill to allow the Passamaquoddy Tribe to seek trust land for a casino in the eastern part of the state. An attempt to override the veto is apparently underway.

But there are also efforts elsewhere. The tribe and the Penobscot Nation are pushing for a casino in the southern port of Kittery.

Tribal settlement acts require state approval of gaming. The tribes are subject to state criminal and civil jurisdiction.
