WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2002

A group which claims to be successor to the historic Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is hoping to develop a golf course and resort.

The golf course would be located on 600 acres but the land is not yet owned by the Native American Mohegans. The group is in talks with a developer to buy the land but no purchase has been announced.

The group tried to challenge the federal law which settled the federally recognized Mohegan Tribe's land claims but failed.

The group is separate from the Mohegan Tribe and Nation Inc., also known as the Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot American Indian Nation and Affiliated Tribes Inc.
