Gaming on some reservations has helped reduce the number of tribal members who receive food stamps, according to an Arizona Republic analysis.

Reliance on food stamps has typically gone down on reservations with smaller populations and where tribes give out per capita payments, the analysis showed. Larger tribes have seen increases or steady use of food stamps.

To qualify for food stamps in Arizona, a person's monthly income must be lower than $905 and a family of four must have an income lower than $1,848 per month.
