Guilty plea for casino kidnapping

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2001 The last of four individuals involved in the kidnapping and beating of a man at the Acoma Pueblo casino in New Mexico pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Efrain Torres Reyes, 33 of Denver, pleaded guilty to one count of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence. He is expected to receive seven years for the crime. Reyes and three other Denver men kidnapped Jim Rashid, owner of the Pow Wow Indian Jewelry store and El Dorado Restaurant in Gallup, in January 2000. The forced Rashid to open his safe at the Gallup restaurant, taking about $170,000 and weapons. A surveillance camera at the casino caught the men in the act. Get the Story:
