The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has donated $1 million to a fund that will assist victims of last week's attack on the World Trade Center and aid the recovery effort.

The money is being sent to a fund established by the New York City Public/Private Initiatives Inc., a non-profit organization.

The tribe had made offers of food, water and other items but were told money was also an option. The decision to send the money was unanimnous and quick, said chairman Mark Brown.

The tribe is also holding a blood drive for tribal members and employees at its Mohegan Sunc casino on September 24.

The neighboring Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is also setting up a fund to aid victims and support relief efforts.
