Calif. Indian gaming study criticized

FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 2001

Opponents of tribal casinos are criticizing a recent study commissioned by the California Nations Indian Gaming Association.

They say the poll didn't look at off-reservation casinos. They also say the sample size was too small to be an accurate reflection of the opinions of state voters.

The poll, conducted by a third-party firm, indicated a majority were happy with the way Indian casinos are run. A majority also opposed giving card clubs and race tracks the ability to offer slot machines.
