As tribes and their allies seek to expand or bring gaming to a number of New England states, the quesion arises whether the market exists for so many casinos.

When it comes to New York, industry watchers say the market is untapped even though slot machines and other Class III games are prohibited. Tribes are currently seeking casinos in the Catksills region stretching to upstate New York.

As for the rest of New England, where two large tribal casinos already exist, the jury is out. Tribes in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut want to open their own facilities although they face serious obstacles.
