The Bad River and St. Croix Ojibwe of Wisconsin have asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to take a parcel of land into trust on which they want to build a casino.

The city of Beloit has offered the tribes land for the off-reservation project.

If the BIA approves the land-into-trust application, Governor Scott McCallum must concur. In February, he vetoed an off-reservation casino proposed by three Ojibwe tribes.

The decision has prompted a lawsuit by the tribes.
