Oneida Nation buys new properties

TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2001 The Oneida Nation of New York has purchased two properties in Verona totalling 79 acres. A 41-acre marina was purchased for $4.4 million and a 38-acre commercial property was bought for $1.1 million. The tribe has been repurchasing land within its land-claim territory. In a significant victory for the tribe, a federal judge in June ruled that the land automatically becomes Indian Country. Get the Story:
