Seneca Nation delays casino vote

FRIDAY, JULY 27, 2001

The Seneca Nation of New York has delayed a voter referendum on a gaming compact to open as many as three casinos.

A vote had been scheduled for August 7. But since the compact hasn't been finalized, tribal members might not have had anything to approve.

Democrats in the Assembly are holding up the deal with questions about organized labor and other issues. The Senate had approved allowing Governor George Pataki (R) to finalize the 14-year agreement.
