In an editorial today, The New London Day says local leaders were right to reject a casino proposed by the Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut, promising to make gaming an issue in upcoming city council elections.

The paper is worried that the tribe, having withdrawn its current proposal, will push the idea at a later date. The paper is worried the upcoming election could result in leaders who support gaming and is calling on residents to oppose a Pequot casino.
