Wis. tribe wants meeting on casino

TUESDAY, JULY 17, 2001 Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum (R) will meet with the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe Tribe, said a spokesperson on Monday, but offered little support for a proposed off-reservation casino in Shullsburg. The tribe says it wants to talk with McCallum as part of an ongoing process to seek trust land status for the proposed facility. But since the Department of Interior has yet to weigh in on the issue, McCallum said there is little he can do now. McCallum has opposed the expansion of gaming in the state. He vetoed an off-reservation casino proposed by three Ojibwe tribes even after the government approved the project. Get the Story:
