Pequot Tribe may lose parking lot

FRIDAY, JULY 13, 2001 The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut will lose a parking lot for its museum unless it can come up with a mass transit plan, a local town said on Thursday. The tribe currently has a five-year term, set to expire in 2003, on a parking lot adjacent to the museum, but the land is currently not held in trust. Therefore, the lot is subject to zoning and planning laws of the town of Ledyard. The tribe had originally told the towns that visitors to the museum would arrive by monorail. The monorail was never built because tribal lawyer Jackson T. King said it would have been too costly. The town may extend the tribe's permit next year or it could rezone the land. Get the Story:
