JUNE 7, 2001

Two Indian gaming bills failed to clear the Connecticut Legislature on Wednesday, the end of the lawmaking session.

A bill to create a new Office of State-Tribal Relations within the Governor's office failed. It had been proposed as a replacement to giving $10 million in casino money to municipalities in southeastern Connecticut.

A bill that would have required tribes who enter into future gaming compacts to comply by state environmental regulations also failed.
