Mich. tribe announces casino plans

The Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi on Tuesday announced a proposal to open a casino in Wayland Township, a rural community south of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The tribe is proposing an 180,000-square-foot gaming facility, a 300-room hotel and a 300-seat buffet A coffee shop, sports bar, restaurant and golf course are also in the works.

The tribe says the casino will bring in more than $160 million in annual revenue. The casino would employ 1,554 people.

The tribe is offering $10.5 million in revenue while local governments would split $2.6 million.

The tribe has to get approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to take land for the site into trust.

The tribe received federal recognition through the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1997.
