JUNE 5, 2000

The $4.4 Alishanee Bowling Recreation Center in Coos Bay, Oregon is due to open by Summer 2001. Owned by the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw, the tribes hope the $1.5 million in gross income the center will generate much needed revenue for the tribe. The tribe currently has a lawsuit against the federal government for approval of a casino on trust land near the city of Florence. The tribe received federal recognition 16 years ago.
