Santa Clara to open casino

JUNE 14, 2001 Santa Clara Pueblo will be opening its new casino in Española on Friday. Even though the tribe signed a gaming compact with the state in 1997, the venture is a first for the northern New Mexico tribe. Other nearby Pueblos have had casinos for a number of years. The casino is located on the main street in Española. A few miles north is a casino owned by San Juan Pueblo while casinos owned by Pojoaque Pueblo and Tesuque Pueblo are located south.
