Quick decision on Mohawk casino urged

JUNE 11, 2001 Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Friday said he will use his position as chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to push the Bureau of Indian Affairs to make a speedy decision on an off-reservation casino proposed by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. Schumer said he doesn't want Sullivan County to wait another four years for an answer. The BIA last year approved a land-into-trust application but the tribe changed gaming partners and proposed a casino in a different location, so a new petition had to be submitted. Get the Story:
