MAY 8, 2000 The Jicarilla Apache are offering its members in northern New Mexico the chance to buy new homes through a low-cost mortgage program. A $1 million grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development grant and an additional $1 million provided by the tribe are helping to pay for the program in Dulee, New Mexico. One new tenant has already moved in to the first of four test homes. The monthly mortgage on the $130,000 home for the 6-member Castillo family is less than $250. 66 applications have been made for the 20 units planned. Get the Story:
