MAY 8, 2000 The Mille Lacs' profitable casinos drive many debates on the reservation. From tribal economic policies to election campaigns, many in the tribe have differing view on how the the $80 million in annual profits of the Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley should be spent. The current administration, under Marge Anderson, has focused on reinvesting the profits into the government and other economic projects. But others want a per capital payment, saying it will help tribal members bring themselves out of poverty. Anderson faces a tough re-election battle next month. Get the Story:
