MAY 30, 2001

Connecticut communities hoping to get more money from the state's two tribal casinos have until June 6 to see their wish come true.

The status of the "impact aid" is in limbo as lawmakers and the Governor finish the budget. Some lawmakers are hopeful the proposal will make it into the final budget.

The casinos owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe are expanding and are expected to bring in an extra $30 million to the state. Of this amount, the towns nearest the casinos want $10 million to distribute among eath other.
