MAY 10, 2001 The Greenville Rancheria of Maidu Tribe of California on Thursday withdrew its controversial proposal to build a casino in Oxnard. But not soon enough for the city council to vote 5-0 to turn down the landless tribe's proposal. Opposition emerged from local officials to local residents to the Chumash Tribe, who accused the Maidu of invading its southern California territory. Get the Story:
