MAY 10, 2001

A poll commissioned by three Idaho tribes shows support for electronic gaming at tribal casinos, although no specific results were released.

To build on the support, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, Kootenai Tribe, and Nez Perce Tribe may launch a campaign to put the issue before state voters in 2002. The effort could cost between $4 million and $8 million ,says Coeur d'Alene tribal gaming CEO David Matheson.

California tribes mounted two efforts there, in which the poured considerably more.

The tribes commissioned the poll after legislators turned down a gaming compact they had negotiated with Governor Dick Kempthorne.
