Crow Tribe to lay off workers

APRIL 19, 2001 The Crow Tribe of Montana on Tuesday began laying off some of its employees. Spokesman Leroy Not Afraid said the cuts will occur among all levels of the tribal government. The tribe employs 1,100 people, including about one out of six tribal members. The tribe has had some financial difficulties in the past few months. Its accountant quit and said the tribe was broke. An ousted official has a lawsuit filed against the tribe, alleging financial mismanagement. Get the Story:
