MARCH 5, 2001 A bill to authorize a new gaming compact between Idaho and its tribes was introduced in the Legislature on Monday after an attempt to stall it failed. Senate Majority Leader Jim Risch said there wasn't enough time to consider the proposal but Senate State Affairs Committee Chairman Sheila Sorensen disagreed. The Committee eventually voted 7-2 to approve the bill. Last Friday, Governor Dick Kempthorne and tribes in the northern part of the state came to an agreement in principle over a new compact.
