The tribal council of the Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts, whose so-far successful bid for federal recognition is being reviewed by the Bush administration, on Thursday voted 7-0 to oust Chairman Bill Gould Sr.

The council voted him out because he reportedly called a local radio station and said the tribe could seek to open a casino in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island. The council didn't tell The Associated Press why they removed him but Gould says they felt his comments were "detrimental" to the tribe.
