FEBRUARY 9, 2001 Saying they are in millions of dollars in debt, Cathedral City officials on Thursday asked the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians to help them out with a number of projects, including a plan to lease a 17-acre plot of land owned by a tribal member for just $1 a year. City officials said they don't expect the tribe to be its savior but were just laying out their financial situation. Tribal officials expressed doubts about some of the city's proposals.
