Non-gaming tribes to get money

JANUARY 26, 2001 The California Gambling Control Commission on Wednesday approved a formula on how to distribute more than $36 million in tribal gaming revenue to non-gaming tribes. The funds will be distributed on a sliding scale, with tribes with no slot machines getting the most money. The Legislature has 30 days to disapprove the formula otherwise the commission will go ahead and start distributing the money. The funds were negotiated in 1999 as part of the gaming tribes' compacts with the state. Get the Story:
