The largest association of Connecticut towns and cities on Tuesday said they will ask the state legislature for a greater share of slot machine revenues raised by two tribal casinos.

The Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation pay 25 percent of their slot revenues to the state as part of their gaming compacts. Some of the money, but not all, is distributed to the state's municipalities.

Each community receives a different amount, based on a formula which includes need. Communities furthest away from the casinos typically receive more than those nearest them.

The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities want more money to be placed into the so-called Pequot and Mohegan Fund. They communities could gain an additional $127 million annually, money which now goes to the state's general fund.

Other legislative proposals would increase money go towns nearest the casinos.
