Pueblo to open timber mill

OCTOBER 4, 2000 The Pueblo of Jemez in New Mexico will open a timber mill within the next month, thanks to a $500,000 grant from the US Department of Commerce. The mill will produce custom beams and lumber for luxury homes. Within a few years, the tribe expects to employ 50 to 75 employees. The timber will come from the Pueblo's 45,000 acres of woodlands which would otherwise be burned. Get the Story:
