FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2001 Tribal casinos are welcoming the expansion of gaming in New York but the move has non-Indian ones worried. Officials at tribal casinos in Connecticut and existing ones in New York say they aren't concerned about six new facilities that were approved by the New York Legislature. They say the more the merrier. Casinos in Atlantic City, however, say the expansion in New York is a "wake up call." Mogul Donald Trump says he might challenge the expansion but he is believed to be working with a tribe to open one of those six casinos. Of the three in the Catskills, the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans of Wisconsin are slated to open one. The tribe has partnered with Trading Cove Associates, the group which helpd the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut gain federal recognition and open its successful, and expanding, casino. In New York, the Oneida Nation and the St. Regis Mohawk own casinos. The new ones could bring in 10,000 jobs, say experts. Get the Story:
