OCTOBER 20, 2000 Arthur Goldberg, president and chief executive officer of Park Place Entertainment, died on Thursday at the age of 58 in a Baltimore, Maryland hospital. Golberg and his company recently struck a deal with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York. The two want to build a casino in the Catskills. After a three year wait, the tribe received approval earlier this year for the off-reservation casino, but with another partner and at a nearby location. The change in partners requires them to submit their proposal to the Department of Interior again, prompting many questions on the feasibility of the casino, Goldberg's committment to it, and a lawsuit against Goldberg filed in tribal court. Members of the tribe plan to attend a service for Goldberg today in New Jersey. The tribe plans to go forward with the casino plans. Get the Story:
