Joint tribal-state gaming debated

Wealthy tribes in Minnesota are expressing opposition to a state-run casino that would benefit poor, remote tribes.

The Red Lake and White Earth Bands of Ojibwe are considering partnering with the state on a casino in the Twin Cities. Both tribes have casinos but their remote location makes their operations less likely to generate significant profits.

The Minnesota Indian Gaming Association, which represents more wealthy tribes, says the casino is a bad idea. The Red Lake and White Earth are not part of the association.
