The state of Montana is suing a business operation of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, asking them to remit a state lodging tax on non-Indian customers.

Since 1997, the tribes' KwaTaqNuk resort has not been collecting a four percent state lodging tax on non-Indians. Previously, the tribes and the state came to an agreement over the taxes and the tribe $245,155 to the state department of revenue.

The state has placed the resort on a blacklist, asking state employees to boycott it for failure to remit taxes.
