Claiming descent from the historic Mohegan Tribe, the Native American Mohegans is seeking recognition from the federal government.

The tribe attempted to have a federal court declare its status. A judge dismissed the claim in February.

The group is not to be confused with the Mohegan Tribe and Nation Inc., also known as the Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot American Indian Nation and Affiliated Tribes Inc.
